iTunes reacting to adult content in App Store

The topic in the Apple Discussions board is “Parental Controls Content Restrictions do not work correctly in iTunes?” The content is all about the ability for anyone, regardless of age or how the parental controls are set, can view previews of adult content showing?unacceptable?imagery.

The topic opener ends with the question, “Is there a step that I missed? How do I make the 17+ apps not visible? I do not want to disable the entire App store, just the explicit content.”

Whoa, there! Developers are singing a different story. One developer fired back by sending a completely unveiled threat over their application “Wobble iBoobs” in a blog post with the statement, “Roll on WINDOWS PHONE 7, ANDROID ? Apple you are completely fith if you think developers are going to take this one without a class action.”

We have not reviewed “Wobble iBoobs” but evidently someone from the Apple staff has?ogled?whatever may be there – which the developer says is nothing. Apple sent a letter to the developer who has recieved over $300,000 AUS from their app which includes, “Your application, Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored), contains content that we had originally believed to be suitable for distribution. However, we have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content, and have changed our guidelines appropriately. ?We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.”

Google Buzz lawsuit over privacy

Here a suit, there a suit, everywhere a suit suit. Especially when a multi-billion dollar company is on the receiving end. So the question isn’t so much whether or not you think Google may have violated security but whether or not you agree with the “pile it on” sue happy environment many attorneys seem to live in.

According to a report in Infoworld, “Eva Hibnick, a resident of Sarasota County, Fla., filed the suit in a San Jose, Calif., federal court on behalf of herself and the approximately 31 million U.S. users of Google’s popular Gmail e-mail service. The lawsuit alleges that Google violated federal privacy and computer fraud laws by adding Buzz to the Gmail service last week.”

Just between you, the wall, and I do you think Eva Hibnick’s privacy was violated enough to warrant a federal law suit? Haw about yours? I mean I didn’t much appreciate Google automatically adding people to my Buzz stream but since that addition exposed absolutely ZERO of my private information or communication to them … know what I’m saying?

How about your two cents:

Does Google deserve a lawsuit for automatically adding your most contacted people to your Buzz stream?

Photoshop for your iPhone (video)

You read the title correctly. Furthermore it is a truth -- at the 20th Anniversary for Photoshop the iPhone app was unveiled by Dr. Russell Brown of Adobe.

Development on the Corona SDK “The function of the app is to load any photo from your iPhone library, and then manipulate it using any aspect of the original Photoshop 1.0 ‘Levels’ panel (which lets you adjust white point, black point and gamma, in separate red/green/blue or combined channels) ? including the original image histogram feature. You can then save the modified photo back into your iPhone library.”

Detailed information available on the Ansca website.

Geo-tagging and your security

Imagine the savvy burglar who builds a database of internet users by their usernames. In this database she keeps a list of real names, home addresses, work addresses and phone numbers. Meanwhile, from her flat black grocery getter she trolls the areas waiting, watching and looking at … http://pleaserobme.com/

It is bound to happen. Of course I seriously doubt it is as easy to happen as the most conspiracy prone reader would like it to be. With geo-tagging becoming ever more popular and the new Foursquare becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives you can rest assured someone, an ex-spouse perhaps, would watch it to see just when the “victim” is away so she can slip back into the home and get that priceless photo of them in a?compromising?position.

With Foursquare, not to single them out because they are “just the medium for transferring the data”, signing a deal with NBC and the Olympics the popularity of that particular geo-tagging site will skyrocket. So will it result the evil rising to the?surface?in people and these types of sites being used for evil purposes?

Think about it. You send a tweet from the local diner that you are enjoying a chili popper and Cherry Coke with friends. Thirty minutes later you return home to find a note pinned stuck to your door. “Sorry we missed you! Saw your tweet but stopped by to see if we could catch you. Love, Mom and Dad.”

That would be benign. What if you send a photo to Twitpic from Cancun and in the photo is everyone who lives in your home. You return home eight days later to a completely empty apartment. Cleaned out …

Food for thought and your comments invited. Be sure and express your thoughts in the survey.

3 fantastic articles for social media and design

Sometimes just logging on to a network is a good thing – like when you’re online friends share really meaty links or bits of information. Today was one of those days and friends shared these three fantastic links on the new Google Buzz. My friend @MikeElliott and my other friend, and show co-host on Social Media Edge, @JasonCrouch shared these on Google Buzz this morning.

Anahita Social Media Engine for Drupal – http://anahitapolis.com/

“Anahita is a light and scalable open source solution for building Social Networks, Intranets, and so many other types of social web experiences! Anahita is developed as Joomla 1.5 extensions and using the?Nooku Framework.?Unlike other similar projects that are architecturally stiff and mainly focused on copying and mimicking websites such as?Facebook or MySpace, the Anahita SocialEngine …”

How to Drastically Improve Your Designs – http://designinformer.com/how-to-drastically-improve-your-designs/

“Design is everywhere. We see it in on billboards as we drive down the street. When we go to a restaurant and look at the menus, we see it. When we sit down on our couch and watch television, it’s visible on the commercials, advertisements, and even the movies and TV shows.?It is all around us and it stimulates and motivates much of our decisions subconsciously every day.”

The Buzz about Google Buzz

google-buzzTwitter not enough for you? Tired of all the social applications on Facebook crowding your stream? Meet Google Buzz. The Buzz reached me today and, being the shy and demure type that I am, I decided to jump in with both feet. Here’s what I found:

  1. Google Buzz seems to be a blend of the Facebook live stream and Twitter.
  2. Google Buzz allows you to use your existing Google message groups to send messages.
  3. It automatically connected to my Google connected sites that are public (see image). That includes both Picasa and Google Reader for me. (If you do not want to share your reader go to http://www.google.com/reader and change the settings.)
  4. “People you follow” on Google Buzz also show up on http://www.google.com/reader in the left menu bar.
  5. Message on Google Buzz showed up automatically in my Gmail inbox. Not sure yet how to change that feature. Messages show up in the inbox with a Google Buzz logo. Once they are entered you can interact with that conversation inside your web based Gmail.google-buzz-icon

The intereface (web page) for Google Buzz isn’t that different than other social engagement websites with live streams. You can see posts from your friends and comment on them. One thing I do already like is the comments are more like Facebook than Twitter where one conversation is grouped together. Unlike Facebook you do have some control over the theme but unlike Twitter you are the only one who will get the benefit of it.

I like that you can share multiple photos in your posts as well as videos and apparently audio. Because Google Docs is right there in the same sphere it will also be very easy to link to a spreadsheet or slide presentation you have stored in Docs.

So far definitely thumbs up.

South Dakota legislature to outlaw free internet phone calls?

InstantConference Logo
Dear Ken:

As your FREE teleconferencing service provider, we seek your help because you’ve conducted conferences with participants from South Dakota (area code 605). Please ask your colleagues in South Dakota to contact their state representative regarding legislation under consideration this week (House Bill 1097). If allowed to pass, this legislation could prohibit you from conducting legitimate business using not only InstantConference, but all free conferencing services.

A simple call or email from your South Dakota associates to their state legislative representative expressing their concern over this matter could make a huge difference. Time is of the essence and we ask that you act promptly!

Whether you or your participants are a small or large business, non-profit organization or church group, please don’t be afraid to let your representative know that the topics you discuss using our conferencing service are of critical importance to you. Let them know that by eliminating your ability to communicate with your associates using the InstantConference service, they are creating a hardship that is unfair, and completely unacceptable to you.

We appreciate you taking the time to consider this issue and for contacting your peers in South Dakota.
