Facebook privacy control changes

You spoke, they listened. Facebook has rolled out (is rolling out) new privacy controls that let you individually control the privacy settings of new posts.

You may get a pop-up the next time you log in that reads:

Privacy Announcement
We’re making some changes to give you more control of your information and help you stay connected. We’ve simplified the Privacy page and added the ability to set privacy on everything you share, from status updates to photos.
At the same time, we’re helping everyone find and connect with each other by keeping some information?like your name and profile picture?publicly available.

What have your experiences been with the new Facebook privacy tool and do you have any other suggestions for future development changes?

What’s a Wibiya?

This is a cool tool I, and you, have just got to have. Since our main topic on the radio shows and for the most part this site is about community building online you will love Wibiya (http://www.wibiya.com)

The Wibiya toolbar parks dynamically at the bottom of your page. You can see one in action at http://lanebailey.com – my friend’s “Garage With A Detached Home” blog. That’s where I found it and tried to steal it!

Wait, no need to steal it because it’s in beta right now and will soon be released to the public … stay tuned and maybe we’ll get someone from Wibiya on one of the show!

Message from “Human Resources regarding your application”

Verbatim – need you really be warned?

Grettings. Good Day.

We came upon a copy of your resume on the Internet. Our corporation oversees a large number employment opportunities in your field. We are fully keen in hiring a qualified individual such as yourself for a collection of services we recommend. The task is moderately simple. You will be in charge of scheduling meetings and from ?time to time, running company errands. When running errands you will be provided with a credit card from the company.

Because of unpleasant experiences with this in the past, before we can send you an company card application, we require you to get a credit check.
We prefer you use – http://ID120409CREDIT02.webs.com/Credit-Check-08.html – to obtain this data. When you give your information they will provide you
your credit check. ?When you email me your credit score, we can continue the employment process.

We have full and part time positions on hand. Email me your schedule and how many hours per week you plan on working. ?Thank you for your attention!

Thank You,

Arthur Collins

Holiday mischief and greeting card virus scams

‘Tis the season to get your computer buggered. Today I got another one of my annual “You Have A Postcard”. Interestingly enough the link doesn’t go to Hallmark but goes to http://90.156.144.70/postcard.scr?

If you are using Linux or Windows7 this won’t be a problem but on older Windows machines it can be malicious. In case you are not familiar with the .scr filename extension it is a script file and can be executed on your computer just by clicking it – DO NOT CLICK ANY LINK WITH .EXE or .SCR unless you know exactly what you are getting.

More info on .scr files http://filext.com/file-extension/scr

Here is the email you may receive – or something similar:

Hello there. You’ve got a?postcard from someone who cares for you. In order to downoad your postcard, click on the link below:
